Hikoya: The Chess Tournament

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

The school chess club invites everybody to a tournament, and participation is free. Sam is amazed to see a hundred names on the list. "Chess was originally an Indian game," says Mr. Brown, "and today it is part of the school curriculum in many countries." Aziz, Dilya and Anvar belong to the core of the club. Their dedicated coach, Ms. Zarina, gives them a last piece of advice: "Think slowly and breathe."

The first game starts after a short delay, because the electric clock does not work. Dilya's hands tremble when she sits at the board. She has a ritual before every match: she touches her queen and takes three slow breaths. Anvar, however, has negative thoughts. "I will lose in five minutes," he whispers. Ms. Zarina tells him to find his inner calm, and slowly his fear begins to diminish.

Dilya wins her first game, and a smile of relief appears on her face. She has improved considerably since last year, and now she has a spot in the final. Anvar loses in the third round, but he is not sad. "I played better than before," he says. In the end, a ten-year-old boy wins the tournament, and everybody applauds him.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Maktab shaxmat klubi hammani turnirga taklif qiladi va ishtirok bepul. Sem ro'yxatda yuzta ism borligini ko'rib hayratda qoladi. «Shaxmat dastlab hind o'yini bo'lgan», deydi Mr. Brown, «hozir esa ko'p mamlakatlarda maktab o'quv dasturiga kiradi». Aziz, Dilya va Anvar klubning asosiy a'zolari. Fidoyi murabbiyi Ms. Zarina ularga oxirgi maslahatni beradi: «Sekin o'ylang va nafas oling».

Birinchi o'yin qisqa kechikishdan keyin boshlanadi, chunki elektron soat ishlamaydi. Dilya taxta oldiga o'tirganda qo'llari titraydi. Har bir o'yin oldidan uning marosimi bor: u farzinga tegadi va uchta sekin nafas oladi. Anvarning esa fikrlari salbiy. «Besh daqiqada yutqazaman», deb pichirlaydi u. Ms. Zarina unga ichki xotirjamlikni topishni aytadi va uning qo'rquvi asta-sekin kamaya boshlaydi.

Dilya birinchi o'yinda yutadi va yuzida yengillik tabassumi paydo bo'ladi. U o'tgan yilga nisbatan ancha o'sgan va endi finalda o'rni bor. Anvar uchinchi davrada yutqazadi, lekin xafa emas. «Men avvalgidan yaxshi o'ynadim», deydi u. Oxirida turnirni o'n yoshli bola yutadi va hamma unga qarsak chaladi.
