Hikoya: A Farewell Party

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

After thirty years at the school, Mr. Karim the caretaker will start his retirement next month. The club wants to give him a surprise party. "That is a lovely idea," says Mr. Brown, "but you need the director's approval." Aziz asks politely for a meeting, and the director agrees. She has only one concern: a school regulation says that no event can continue after six o'clock. Dilya promises that the party will finish on time.

The friends make a plan. Sam is naive about prices and orders a huge cake, so Dilya must subtract its cost from the small budget and finds almost no money left. Anvar wants to enhance the old hall with paper lights and photos from thirty years of school life. Aziz makes an invitation card for every teacher, and each card is valid for two people, because everybody knows the caretaker. The principal guest, of course, will be Mr. Karim's wife.

On Friday, a steady flow of guests enters the hall, and the party grows to a much larger scale than the friends expected. Scarcely has Mr. Karim opened the door when everybody shouts, "Surprise!" The old man cannot speak for a minute. Then the club gives him a toolbox with a combination lock and a card: "Thank you for helping us attain our goals." He smiles and says that he will never forget this evening.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Maktabda o'ttiz yil ishlagan farrosh Mr. Karim keyingi oy nafaqaga chiqadi. Klub unga syurpriz ziyofat uyushtirmoqchi. «Bu ajoyib g'oya», deydi Mr. Brown, «lekin direktorning ma'qullashi kerak». Aziz xushmuomalalik bilan uchrashuv so'raydi va direktor rozi bo'ladi. Uning bitta tashvishi bor: maktab qoidasiga ko'ra, hech bir tadbir soat oltidan keyin davom etmaydi. Dilya ziyofat o'z vaqtida tugashini va'da qiladi.

Do'stlar reja tuzadi. Sem narxlarni bilmaydigan sodda bola: ulkan tort buyurtma qiladi, shuning uchun Dilya uning narxini kichik byudjetdan ayirishi kerak va deyarli pul qolmaydi. Anvar eski zalni qog'oz chiroqlar va o'ttiz yillik maktab hayotidan olingan suratlar bilan bezatmoqchi. Aziz har bir o'qituvchiga taklifnoma yasaydi va har bir karta ikki kishi uchun amal qiladi, chunki farroshni hamma taniydi. Asosiy mehmon, albatta, Mr. Karimning rafiqasi bo'ladi.

Juma kuni zalga mehmonlar oqimi kirib keladi va ziyofat do'stlar kutganidan ancha katta miqyosga ega bo'ladi. Mr. Karim eshikni zo'rg'a ochishi bilan hamma «Syurpriz!» deb baqiradi. Chol bir daqiqa gapira olmay qoladi. Keyin klub unga kodli qulfi bor asboblar qutisi va kartochka sovg'a qiladi: «Maqsadlarimizga erishishimizga yordam berganingiz uchun rahmat». U jilmayib, bu kechani hech qachon unutmasligini aytadi.
