The club prepares a detective play for the school festival. The story takes place in an old jail, and the main character is a ruthless detective. Anvar draws a sketch of the stage, and Dilya sews the costumes. Mr. Brown even agrees to shave his beard to look younger.

In the play, a precious ring disappears, and a rumor says that the gardener took it. Sam, the detective, must find a clue whilst the audience watches. He wants to provoke the real thief with a clever question. His devoted assistant, played by Aziz, writes everything in a small notebook.

After the show, Mr. Brown's spouse invites the actors to the nursery where she teaches. She tries to cultivate a love of music in the little children, and they sing a song for the guests. Her hospitality is warm: she serves tea and sweet bread. "Today fulfills my oldest dream," says Mr. Brown. "I have directed a play."
