Hikoya: Mr. Karim's Book

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

In the local community, everybody loves Mr. Karim, Aziz's old neighbour. He is writing a book about his life. The first chapter is finished, but he needs help. "My handwriting is bad," he says, "and I do not understand computers." The friends have exams, so the choice is not easy. Still, they say yes. They make a plan and take it step by step, therefore the work does not feel heavy.

The job requires patience. Dilya types the written pages, and Anvar checks the spelling. The latest chapter is about a tailor shop. Mr. Karim tells them a funny story about a rich client who never paid his tax. To ensure that nothing is lost, Aziz saves every page on two computers and puts the original papers in a box with a strong lock. "Good security is important," he says.

After two months, the book exists as a real object. The printer's shop is far away, beyond the river, so Sam carries the pages there on his bike. When Mr. Karim holds the first copy, his hands shake. "I never thought I would see this," he says quietly. On the cover are four more names: the names of his young helpers.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Mahalla jamiyatida hamma Azizning keksa qo'shnisi Karim akani yaxshi ko'radi. U o'z hayoti haqida kitob yozmoqda. Birinchi bob tugagan, lekin unga yordam kerak. «Yozuvim yomon», deydi u, «kompyuterni esa tushunmayman». Do'stlarning imtihonlari bor, shuning uchun tanlov oson emas. Shunday bo'lsa-da, ular rozi bo'ladi. Ular reja tuzib, qadamma-qadam ishlaydi, shuning uchun ish og'ir tuyulmaydi.

Bu ish sabr talab qiladi. Dilya yozma sahifalarni kompyuterda terib chiqadi, Anvar esa imloni tekshiradi. Eng so'nggi bob tikuvchilik do'koni haqida. Karim aka ularga solig'ini hech qachon to'lamaydigan boy mijoz haqida kulgili voqea aytib beradi. Hech narsa yo'qolmasligini ta'minlash uchun Aziz har bir sahifani ikkita kompyuterda saqlaydi, asl qog'ozlarni esa mustahkam qulfli qutiga soladi. «Yaxshi xavfsizlik muhim», deydi u.

Ikki oydan keyin kitob haqiqiy narsa sifatida mavjud bo'ladi. Bosmaxona uzoqda, daryoning narigi tomonida, shuning uchun Sem sahifalarni velosipedida olib boradi. Karim aka birinchi nusxani qo'liga olganda, qo'llari titraydi. «Buni ko'raman deb hech o'ylamagan edim», deydi u sekin. Muqovada yana to'rtta ism bor: uning yosh yordamchilarining ismlari.
