Hikoya: A Visit from a Journalist

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

A journalist called Ms. Zarina visits the club. She went on a dozen expeditions during the last decade. Her qualification is a degree in geography, but she loves adventure more than books. To illustrate her stories, she shows photos from the high mountains. "It is scary up there," she says. "The wind constantly pushes you." Sam turns pale.

One photo shows her hands in two huge gloves. "It was thirty degrees below zero," she says. "I had to rub my fingers every ten minutes." Another photo is a portrait of an old guide with a white beard. "Once a helicopter came to take me home," she says, "but my guide stayed behind. It was unfair, but he insisted." Dilya looks at the portrait for a long time.

At the end, Zarina points to a map on the wall and draws a line upwards to a high peak. "Who wants to join my next expedition?" she asks. Aziz can resist everything except mountains, so he raises his hand at once. Sam hides under the table. "Maybe next decade," he whispers.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Zarina ismli jurnalist klubga tashrif buyuradi. U so'nggi o'n yillikda o'nlab ekspeditsiyalarda bo'lgan. Uning malakasi geografiya bo'yicha diplom, lekin u kitoblardan ko'ra sarguzashtni ko'proq yaxshi ko'radi. Hikoyalarini tasvirlash uchun u baland tog'lardan olingan suratlarni ko'rsatadi. «U yerda qo'rqinchli», deydi u. «Shamol doimo sizni itaradi». Sem rangi o'chib ketadi.

Bir suratda uning qo'llari ikkita katta qo'lqopda ko'rinadi. «O'ttiz daraja sovuq edi», deydi u. «Har o'n daqiqada barmoqlarimni ishqalashim kerak edi». Boshqa surat — oq soqolli keksa yo'lboshchining portreti. «Bir marta vertolyot meni uyga olib ketgani keldi», deydi u, «lekin yo'lboshchim ortda qoldi. Bu adolatsizlik edi, lekin u turib oldi». Dilya portretga uzoq qarab turadi.

Oxirida Zarina devordagi xaritaga ishora qilib, baland cho'qqiga qarab yuqoriga chiziq chizadi. «Kim keyingi ekspeditsiyamga qo'shilmoqchi?» deb so'raydi u. Aziz tog'lardan boshqa hamma narsaga bardosh bera oladi, shuning uchun u darhol qo'lini ko'taradi. Sem stol tagiga yashirinadi. «Balki keyingi o'n yillikda», deb pichirlaydi u.
