Hikoya: The Bridge Contest

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

Mr. Rustam is a retired engineer. He spent twenty years abroad, where he helped to construct bridges in countries with a hot climate. Now he spends his leisure time with the club. "Why do some bridges survive floods," he asks, "and others do not?" He gives no explanation. "You must find it yourselves."

The club decides to compete in the school bridge contest. They employ only matchsticks and glue. Mr. Rustam's advice has a strong influence on their design. "A triangle is stronger than a square," he says. Sam's cat, a fat white animal called Prince, loves to walk on the model. "It is a convenient test for strength," says Aziz.

On the day of the contest, the bridge holds three kilograms, twice as much as the others. Anvar reaches the conclusion that Prince has helped them more than any book. In the evening, the friends sit in the garden of Mr. Rustam and drink tea. The air is warm, and the evening is pleasant. "Now you know how to survive a flood," he says with a smile.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Rustam aka nafaqadagi muhandis. U yigirma yilni chet elda o'tkazgan, u yerda issiq iqlimli mamlakatlarda ko'priklar qurishga yordam bergan. Endi u bo'sh vaqtini klub bilan o'tkazadi. «Nega ba'zi ko'priklar toshqinda omon qoladi», deb so'raydi u, «boshqalari esa yo'q?» U hech qanday tushuntirish bermaydi. «Buni o'zlaringiz topishingiz kerak».

Klub maktabdagi ko'prik tanloviga qatnashishga qaror qiladi. Ular faqat gugurt cho'plari va yelimdan foydalanadi. Rustam akaning maslahati ularning loyihasiga kuchli ta'sir qiladi. «Uchburchak kvadratdan mustahkamroq», deydi u. Semning mushugi, Prince ismli semiz oq hayvon, maketda yurishni yaxshi ko'radi. «Bu mustahkamlik uchun qulay sinov», deydi Aziz.

Tanlov kuni ko'prik uch kilogrammni ko'taradi, bu boshqalarnikidan ikki barobar ko'p. Anvar Prince ularga har qanday kitobdan ko'ra ko'proq yordam bergan, degan xulosaga keladi. Kechqurun do'stlar Rustam akaning bog'ida o'tirib choy ichadi. Havo iliq, kech esa yoqimli. «Endi toshqindan qanday omon qolishni bilasizlar», deydi u tabassum bilan.
