Hikoya: The New Dam

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

The village near the river celebrates the opening of a new dam. The club comes as supporters of the project, because it brings water to many farms. It is a terribly hot day, and the streets are full of colourful flags. The celebration begins with a song by the famous composer Mr. Karimov.

Sam notices a strange similarity: the composer resembles Mr. Brown so much that they could be brothers. "Are you related?" he asks. Mr. Brown only shrugs and smiles. Then the heat becomes too strong, and the mayor has to withdraw to the shade. The composer speaks instead. He remembers the cruel drought that damaged the village forty years ago.

In the crowd, Sam trips over a rope and falls on his knee. Dilya holds his arm firmly and helps him up. The composer smiles at the loyal friends. "Water is a treasure," he says, "but friends are an even bigger one." Then the gates of the dam open, and cold water flows into the dry fields.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Daryo bo'yidagi qishloq yangi to'g'onning ochilishini nishonlaydi. Klub loyiha tarafdorlari sifatida keladi, chunki u ko'plab dalalarga suv olib keladi. Kun dahshatli darajada issiq, ko'chalar esa rang-barang bayroqlarga to'la. Bayram mashhur bastakor Mr. Karimovning qo'shig'i bilan boshlanadi.

Sem g'alati o'xshashlikni payqaydi: bastakor Mr. Brownga shunchalik o'xshaydiki, ular aka-uka bo'lishi mumkin. «Siz qarindoshmisiz?» deb so'raydi u. Mr. Brown faqat yelka qisib, jilmayadi. Keyin issiq juda kuchayadi va hokim soyaga chekinishga majbur bo'ladi. Uning o'rniga bastakor so'zlaydi. U qirq yil oldin qishloqqa zarar yetkazgan shafqatsiz qurg'oqchilikni eslaydi.

Olomon ichida Sem arqonga qoqilib, tizzasi bilan yiqiladi. Dilya uning qo'lidan mahkam ushlab, turishiga yordam beradi. Bastakor sodiq do'stlarga jilmayadi. «Suv — xazina», deydi u, «lekin do'stlar bundan ham katta xazina». Keyin to'g'on eshiklari ochiladi va sovuq suv qurg'oq dalalarga oqib kiradi.
