Hikoya: The Science Fair

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

Today is the science fair, and Anvar wears a smart suit. His project is a small machine that can operate with water instead of electricity. "I want a good grade," he says, "and I also want respect from the teachers." The rules have a strict limit: each student has only five minutes. Anvar is slightly nervous, but he is absolutely sure of his idea.

Dilya's project is about the diamond, the hardest material on Earth. "It is a scientific wonder," she says. "It forms deep under the ground in severe heat. And there is a great variety of colours: white, blue, even pink." Her character is calm, and the judges appreciate her clear explanation.

Sam has not prepared anything, but he asks for permission to show a quick experiment. The judges agree. He mixes soda and vinegar in a bottle, and the immediate result is a loud pop and a cloud of white foam. The judges are covered in it, but they laugh. "Not very scientific," says one of them, "but certainly unforgettable."

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Bugun ilm-fan ko'rgazmasi va Anvar chiroyli kostyum kiygan. Uning loyihasi — elektr o'rniga suv bilan ishlay oladigan kichik mashina. «Men yaxshi baho olmoqchiman», deydi u, «va o'qituvchilarning hurmatini ham qozonmoqchiman». Qoidalarda qat'iy chegara bor: har bir o'quvchiga atigi besh daqiqa beriladi. Anvar biroz hayajonlangan, lekin g'oyasiga mutlaqo ishonadi.

Dilyaning loyihasi olmos haqida — yer yuzidagi eng qattiq material. «Bu ilmiy mo'jiza», deydi u. «U yer ostida qattiq issiqda hosil bo'ladi. Ranglari ham juda xilma-xil: oq, ko'k, hatto pushti». Uning xarakteri xotirjam, hakamlar esa uning aniq tushuntirishini qadrlaydi.

Sem hech narsa tayyorlamagan, lekin tez tajriba ko'rsatishga ruxsat so'raydi. Hakamlar rozi bo'ladi. U shishada soda va sirkani aralashtiradi va zudlik bilan natija chiqadi: baland pop ovozi va oq ko'pik buluti. Hakamlar ko'pikka belanadi, lekin kulib yuboradi. «Unchalik ilmiy emas», deydi ulardan biri, «lekin, albatta, unutilmas».
