Hikoya: Heritage Day

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

Today the school celebrates Heritage Day, and every student must bring an object from his or her ancestors. The school is full of diverse traditions, but primarily the day is about respect. Dilya brings her great-grandmother's silver ring, and Aziz carefully carries a wooden spoon that is two hundred years old. Sam arrives in an elaborate wizard costume with a long white beard. "My ancestors were wizards," he says. "That is not logical," answers Dilya, "but your costume is great."

The school director reads the slogan of the day: "Know your roots." During the parade, the sun is hot, and everybody starts to sweat. Mr. Brown asks Anvar to fetch cold water from the canteen. In the hall, Dilya's grandmother recites a short prayer for peace in a soft tone, and the whole room becomes quiet.

Suddenly two small children begin to argue about a flag. An older boy, a peer of Aziz, intervenes before the argument becomes loud. "Respect is the best defense against fights," he says. The children shake hands. At the end of the day, Mr. Brown says that the old objects are not just things: they are a bridge between families and time.

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Bugun maktab Meros kunini nishonlaydi va har bir o'quvchi ajdodlaridan qolgan buyumni olib kelishi kerak. Maktab turli-tuman an'analarga boy, lekin bu kun birinchi navbatda hurmat haqida. Dilya buvisining buvisidan qolgan kumush uzukni olib keladi, Aziz esa ikki yuz yillik yog'och qoshiqni ehtiyotkorlik bilan ko'tarib keladi. Sem uzun oq soqolli puxta tayyorlangan sehrgar kostyumida keladi. «Mening ajdodlarim sehrgar bo'lgan», deydi u. «Bu mantiqiy emas», javob beradi Dilya, «lekin kostyuming zo'r».

Maktab direktori kunning shiorini o'qiydi: «Ildizingni bil». Yurish paytida quyosh issiq va hamma terlay boshlaydi. Mr. Brown Anvardan oshxonadan sovuq suv olib kelishni so'raydi. Zalda Dilyaning buvisi yumshoq ohangda tinchlik uchun qisqa duo o'qiydi va butun zal jim bo'lib qoladi.

To'satdan ikki kichkina bola bayroq uchun tortisha boshlaydi. Azizning tengdoshi bo'lgan katta bola janjal baland ovozga aylanmasdan aralashadi. «Hurmat — janjallardan eng yaxshi himoya», deydi u. Bolalar qo'l berib ko'rishadi. Kun oxirida Mr. Brown eski buyumlar shunchaki narsa emas, ular oilalar va zamon o'rtasidagi ko'prik ekanini aytadi.
