Hikoya: At the Dentist

Unit so'zlari matnda ajratib ko'rsatilgan. Gapni bossangiz, hikoya shu gapdan o'qiladi.

Sam has a bad habit: he eats sweets every day. Today his tooth hurts, so his mother takes him to the dentist, and Aziz goes too. Everyone in the waiting room is calm, except Sam. "I never complain," he says, "but this is a terrible day!" Aziz lends him his lucky coin.

Dr. Olim leads Sam to a big chair. "Be honest," says the dentist. "How often do you use your brush?" "Every day," says Sam. Then he looks at the ceiling and adds, "Or every week. Maybe every month." Dr. Olim smiles. "Open your mouth, please."

The visit is short. "Do not eat sweets until tomorrow," says the dentist. "That is impossible!" says Sam. "In our culture, every guest gets a sweet." "Then give the sweets to the guests," says Dr. Olim. At home, Sam's mother kisses him. A small cake with one candle waits on the table. "For a brave boy," she says. "You can eat it tomorrow."

O'zbekcha tarjimasi

Semning yomon odati bor: u har kuni shirinlik yeydi. Bugun tishi og'riydi, shuning uchun onasi uni tish shifokoriga olib boradi, Aziz ham birga boradi. Kutish xonasidagilarning hammasi xotirjam, faqat Sem bundan mustasno. «Men hech qachon shikoyat qilmayman, — deydi u, — lekin bu dahshatli kun!» Aziz unga omadli tangasini qarz beradi.

Doktor Olim Semni katta kreslo tomon boshlab boradi. «Rostgo'y bo'ling, — deydi shifokor. — Tish cho'tkasini qanchalik tez-tez ishlatasiz?» «Har kuni», deydi Sem. Keyin shiftga qarab qo'shimcha qiladi: «Yoki har hafta. Balki har oy». Doktor Olim jilmayadi. «Iltimos, og'zingizni oching».

Qabul qisqa bo'ladi. «Ertagacha shirinlik yemang», deydi shifokor. «Bu imkonsiz!» deydi Sem. «Bizning madaniyatimizda har bir mehmonga shirinlik beriladi». «Unda shirinliklarni mehmonlarga bering», deydi doktor Olim. Uyda Semning onasi uni o'pib qo'yadi. Stolda bitta shamli kichik tort turibdi. «Jasur bola uchun, — deydi u. — Uni ertaga yeysan».
